I tell you people one thing that i think.

IF THAT RENDER DOESNT FINISH IN THE NEXT 2 or 4 or 8 NEXT HOURS ! AND YOU HAVE TO BE WAITING !

You Are Possibly Doing Something Very Wrong With your Artistic live 
Because ART is not waiting for a Software to render ...

Unless you are doing more art in one computer wille in the other it renders ...
Professional 3D Art Must be as Easy and intuitive as  a Oil Painting or a sculpture would be .

But most of all Because 

REal Art is done in REALTIME ...

If you dont have Instant Feedback in your art Like you would with a Pen and papper ...
You then are not doing art - You are killing yourself technically Artistically

One week to build, spending 1 hour each evening and 3 days to render on the old Bryce 7 engine.


I reaaly kinda deeply admire people that have enthusiasm and strenght enouph
to be enduring enduring a whole week of work just to do a single amazing atonishing artistic picture 

Those who can do it are real artists !

But again ART largely depends on its purpose.

And the CGART purpose Depends largely on teh software you are using.

And you should almost remind that ART without a STRONG PURPOSE is just week and no meaning.

So to be Spending a Whole week and Let a Software Render for 3 days ...

In the year 2015 today it can mean alot of things...

Its depends on whats Software you are using.

And in the end WHat is the purpose of you doing that art after all ?

 For me ...

3D Art Should be like Oil Painting 
Never stick to a Oil Brush Or SOftware ...
If it starts to get weared and painfull for you .

And Waiting 1 week ... for one art and 3 days for 1 single Rendering Image ...
No matter how good the image is .. and how much you enjoy doing it ...

Its Just painfull reaaly .... And there is no reason to Endure it this 2015 days ...

AND .. Beying completly Unbiased here ...

People that Still Work with BRYCE.

Are working with a Totaly Obsolete software.

And making Their Art and their Time and their Efforts Obsolete as well.

UNLESS ... THEY JUST WANT TO SHOW HOW GOOD THEY ARE  

Because working JUST with Bryce is Totaly Painfull !

And Ubber unecessary when you can work with All that we have available today and that is !

BRYCE is not free as should be .. but its  Just 10$ .

But let me say this Just once .

With so many Good choiçes of 3D Software 

Taking in count all those free and Available SOftwares Amazing Features we have Available for free .

PEOPLE THAT TODAY JUST STICK TO WORK JUST WITH BRYCE 

They Are completely Out of their mind . ANd out of the Common also ...

So if you still Hanguing around With BRYCE for no Reason whatsoever but just to play ...

FOR ME Best thing could happen is that Bryce Developers should make BRYCE as a BLENDER PLUGIN ...

I would seriously even pay 100 or 200$ for Bryce Full features as a Plugin Inside Blender ... WOuld be a Dream for many people ...

So if Daz3D programmers Quitted from Bryce and Carrara to now just work in IRAY and Dazstudio and FOR FREE ...

Because Many people would even pay up to 200$  ( that is "the older bryce price" 10 years ago ... )

BRYCE AND CARRARA AMAZING UNIQUE SOFTWARE QUALITIES ARE QUITE THE SAME
 BUT IN THE SAME WAY ARE BEING FORGOTTEN


Bryce was already long ago made of Modules and as a SImple Plugin of Photoshop in the KPT old days ..

So why not bring BRYCE to its Origins .. and use it as PLUGIN ...

And lets face the Fact that BLENDER STILL SUCKS In Enviroment Volumetrics ... 

Wile BRYCE / CARRARA / TERRAGEM / VUE They Just Still RULE and there is no other softwares Alike in Features

In Blender Volumetrics Skies and terrains WOuld reaaly beneficiate of BRYCE Easy ENviroment capabilities.
Even Bryce Unique materials and instance lab .... Inside blender would just rock the house !


But Those people .. that have the SOFWARE PATENTS IN HAND ... They dont care ..
They just dont think about it ... or no one tells them ...


And i do Comprehend People LOVE for BRYCE ...

Because BRYCE its quite a Unique Amazing Pieçe of software with 20 Years old ...

THAT SHOULD BE ALREADY IN PUBLIC DOMAIN AND OPEN SOURCE AS BLENDER

So that The Community of Programmers could MIX BOTH ...

BUT NO ... DAM DAZ3D DOESNT DO IT ... And instead

They prefer to Put the BRYCE Software for 10$ 

AND RELEASE ALL MIGHTY NVIDEA IRAY FOR FREE 

Now isnt that Freaking Ironic ....

Its ok its good for Nvidea IRAY to be free.

But Next Best Thing would be to RELEASE BRYCE AS OPEN SOURCE .

And OR Desintegrate it and Integrate it all its features in DazStudio As PLUGIN .

BRYCE IS A BLAST FROM THE PAST 

Even VUE cant do as fast Concepts as in Bryce ... Because bryce has that Easyness you cant see in no other software ...

The problem is when you goto render and you have to waith 8 to 80 hours ...

And if you Complain not having money or time ... 
Check your POWER BILL ...

Im Sure that instead leaving so many renders 150 hours rendering the latest year lol ...

With same Energy expended You already could buy a Geforçe 980 or a titan and you would be Flying with Blender GPU ...

AND BLENDER ... ITS A BLAST TO THE FUTURE

 ... Blender is not that complicated as it Looks ... You just need to understand how it works 
And if you do .. in just some minutes you will start doing things as this

Now what can we learn here is that ...

To do a Good 3D Artwork be in whatever software
Even in the Most Dificult there is .

You need the concept Art first.

You need to know what you are doing
ANd were you are going to direct that art.

THEN YOU SERIOUSLY NEED A GOOD 3D LIBRARY .

Wich is something that Sometimes it can take you Many Years.

In this case 3 Years to Aglomerate some qualifying Trees Shrubs Flowers Grass Vegetations library.

AND THEN AFTER HAVE THAT LIBRARY ...

Its just to Put Your library Things Into Use 
And your Art Starts to become EASIER than ever .

So what we learn from here is that Even more important than THE SOFTWARE
Is the 3D LIBRARY you use .. and therefore the degree that you can use with that software or not.

MANY NEWBIES THEY JUST PICK IN BRYCE ...

And try to Scruble SOme terrains ...
They Put some primitives.. try to Make Procedural textures ...

Use Default Bryce Trees DOnt even Use Hdri ...

AND THEN THEY COMPLAIN BECAUSE BRYCE IS CRAP .

But the true there is that Their 3D Library is Crap or Non Existent ... Not Bryce reaaly.


And SO if you have All Xfrog Cds Plants and Evermotions Models
All your 3d ModelsVery well catalogued with images ... Hunt All types of 3d models even dazStuffs ...

Well you can do Renders in NO TIME that you would waste dozen hours trying do the same  ...

Not just in BRYCE but in VUE in MAX in MAYA In WHatever SOFTWARE ...

EVEN IN BLENDER ... AND EXPECIALLY IN BLENDER.

To WOrk Good WIth Blender Due the Procedural Nature of Blender ( same as Houdini ) 

YoU need to do your own All types of libraries ...

Procedural Skies Libraries, Procedural Materials Libraries.
Light Rigs Libraries. Terrain Libraries ...

And Talking about TERRAIN Libraries .

THE BEST WAY TO DO 3D TERRAIN LIBRARIES AS WELL HDRI SKIES LIBRARIES FOR BLENDER

Is to Do it first in BRYCE or TERRAGEM ...

Then Import Those Terrain and Skies From BRYCE and TERRAGEM INTO BLENDER .





SO I THINK ... We All should USE BOTH . We SHould not BITCH of what is FREE or ALMOST .

AND Bryce and blender Can be AMAZING toguether .

I Actually use Blender with DAzstudio / 3Dsmax / Thea Render / octane render ... Zbrush ...

And BLENDER is a awesome finishing ! As Well Greatest Medium to Bridge all those !!



Well let me tell you here a secret ... I was not reaaly used to blender up to the start of this year ...
I had teached about it 4 Years ago ... when i was a 3d teacher in a art school ..

And for 2 years i had to study it forçedly ... Back then BLENDER didn't even had cycles .. And it was owfull ..

My Renderers of choiçe Were Thea Render + cinema4d + Arnold + Indigo.. Modo ...
Maya 3ds max Vue Xstream ... Even terragem i would prefer to blender ! 




BUT THEN The Start of this Year ... i Tried to Make my partner change Its mind about BRYCE
and Start to work with something better as MODO ... And i would even buy her a Licence ...

But she decided to NOT Use anything commercial and lesser in our work into our novels ...
we are making here ... So she decided to buy a BLENDER BOOK to learn it ..

Because she is so Adicted in trying to show the world on how much WITHOUT SPENDING MONEY you can do greath things ...

AND SHE FORÇED ME INTO BLENDER ... And i was like ... 

"Ho lord what can i do ... soo blender it is ... For the sake of all my sins ... "
And that was the beguining of this year ...

5 months have passed .. and im actually prety glad she did forçed me on that decision ...
Because latest Blender Versions are better than Modo ... Reaaly ...

And i could HARDLY recognize the blender i knew and teached 2 Years ago ...




The Cycles Renderer is Fantastic ... it Beats VUE Largely because its Realtime Even in a low end computer !

And blender with my Humble 8 Xeon Cores here is even faster than Vue ever was !

BUT I NOTICE RARELY PEOPLE ARE USING BLENDER FOR LANDSCAPES ... unless the Blender world bests and that rarely ...

And blender has this Greath amazing Feature that are the PARTICLES Ecosystems ...

And i love Thea Render or Indigo for blender as they can Do Both Cpu and gpu ... or Octane ...
But even Blender without Money Spend ...  the both Internal renderers ... Of BLENDER are amazing ...

For example BELLOW this is the BLENDER INTERNAL Renderer

That as one can clearly see on can Make the work of 1 render in bryce that takes 3 days in 3 MINUTES

And do things even better than bryce ... Or very Similar .. i Would say this is almost a BRYCE render Bellow right ?

( the above is better / but very dificult for one to do that grade of things with Just bryce ... )
And that is the BLENDER extremely fast Internal renderer .. power ... That also is Iteractive and realtime ...

 
Then there is the Hiper Realistic CYCLES ... That Can do BETTER than vue ...
If you have a good Graphics card and Cool 8 cores 






( the above Renders they just look straight out of VRAY .. but they are BLENDER Cycles .. Its secoundary renderer ) 


ANd you have Lux Render and other renderers that you can atach to it ...

What iv seen is that ... People are using Blender UNPROPERLY ...
And that is because they all lack the VISION skills needed ...

Skills that A person that can do a GREATH LANDSCAPE in BRYCE ... HAS !

( Simply because bryce is the most dificult program ever ! lol ... ) Even carrara or terragem is easier  ...



Now here a Funny thing ....

I did put my hands in blender .  And im starting to do Greater things out of it and more easier than i ever done in vue ... just after 3 months ...

BUT my Partner Never had the time to learn blender ...  
As Blender Interface and all those Crazy Schemes Blender has ....
Can be crazy complex and hard to follow .. if you dont watch the right tuttorials ... www.blenderguru.com/
And she even doesnt have time to watch tuttorials ...


BUT WHAT I HAVE FOUND ... Is that You dont need to LEAVE BRYCE To work with blender ....


As you can Prety AMAZINGLY Do Renders Using BOTH ! BLENDER AND BRYCE or and TERRAGEM ...

CAN ALL WORK TOGUETHER PRETTY WELL !

And that is like this :

You can use BRYCE for QUickly setup ( what blender you cant do that fast )
that is make terrains, Setup the scene concept , setup the skies ...

THEN you just need to render that as a 360 degrees hdri panorama ... And LOAD into Blender as a Backdrop ...

Then as Cycles is a Photorealistic Unbiased engine All your Bryce Lightning and scene cood will be aplied to your scene ...






After that you can Export Bryce Terrains and even Bryce Forests Trees Assets
or you can just use evermotion or xfrog or whatever you want AS PARTICLES Ecosystems Wich is one of the greatest Blender features ...




Just to give you a apetizer you can make "particles of particles" And destribute those particles as ecosystems in a much profound way than even VUE could ... Well in Vue 2015 you can actually Stack Ecosystems to Destribute over ecosystems ... But in Blender you can make Ecosystems out of ecosistems .. for example Start with a Tree mesh ... that you can Scatter tiny Bark Meshes to make it hyper resolution then scatter above that Tree leaves .. Then Pick on the whole scene you created and Scatter the whole Tree with Particle ecosistems as ecosystems in another larger scene with trees and grasses and rocks .. then pick those trees grasses and rocks and scatter over a whole landscape ! ... and that is a Level of 3 or 4 Particles systems that work toguether .... and that just because Particles and instances and instances and whole scenes that you can link and instance are the same thing in blender ... So just in that Blender ends REVOLUTIONARY and not any other software alike for LANDSCAPING ....

Of course you have to learn all that ... 
But its easy actually ...

You just need to waste 1 hour if that much watching some Youtube tuttorials and theer are many

And actually as far as iv seen .... IF YOU HAVE COMPUTER POWER ...

LETS SAY  that you work with 2 x 8 cores i7 ... And that is 16 Cores for rendering ...

Wich is quite a WASTE of cores for BRYCE ... Unless you put 2 Bryce Instances Rendering Diferent parts at same time ...

Well the fact is that If you use those 16 cores in a Bryce Render ..... well you canot ...

Well you can only Use 8 Cores because Bryce is Limited to work in ( 8 cores MAX in "Priority" mode ... ) 

A THING THAT MOST PEOPLE DONT KNOW EVEN PEOPLE THAT USE BRYCE DONT KNOW

Is that Bryce is a Abandoned Pieçe of Software Code ...

That Back Then METACRIATIONS EVolved Mixing it with RAY DREAM STUDIO ...

And Created CARRARA Out of That Mix of Codes Toguether with Some Hexagon code also in it .

SO IF YOU DONT KNOW THIS NOW YOU KNOW

CARRARA is not as Slow as BRYCE but Half as Slow .

But it has a good Thing .. is not limited on threads.

So if you have a Most Recent computer with 16 cores to 64 cores ...

CARRARA WILL BE THE AMAZING PROFESSIONAL BRYCE REPLACEMENT FOR YOU.

And Carrara has a Good thing that is Have acess to The Plugins for LUXRENDER and OCTANE renders if you want ultimate realism

BUT YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY 150$ FOR CARRARA


WILE YOU SURELY CAN HAVE AND DO MUCH MUCH BETTER AND FASTER WORK WITH BLENDER

In Blender you can Have A worstation with as Many Cores 32 64 cores and it will render faster and faster ...

16 Cores on a I7 is already very good Machine for blender ...

Will make you any Blender Cycles render Take 3 Hours Max for 1000 samples ...

Even with Volumetrics aplied

 

Well volumetrics in Blender are Something easy ... Even Whole world Volumetrics ...



Then BRYCE Volumetric world .... is Impossible slow ...



Bryce HDRI techniques doesn't work as it should beside if you put hdri shadow .. it kills render times ...
Even Light dome techniques in Bryce are ubber slow .... Then ... 



IN BLENDER HDRI Workflow and Results is ... Soooo BETTER ..



Even making Panorama Hdris ... Full Procedural ... as in BRYCE ...





Then in large WOrlds ...



Have you tried to put one xfrog or evermotion tree in Bryce and scatter it ? hahah... 
Im sure you did and you know we should not even try it ! hahah...

It just crashes with memory problems as soon you try to use instance lab ... 
So only way is to instance 1 by 1 untill you have a group an dthen you can instance the group again manually ...

All that just because BRYCE instance lab ... i dont know ... just doesnt work any good at all ..
as inspite instancing instead of instancing as other aplications should it just keeps raising memory ....

And volumetrics in bryce .... are kinda cool but soooooo slow ... that is unbarable ...

And well ... you end up Losing Dozens hours working things out in bryce .. without even knowing what you are doing ....
Because you just see wireframes .... Wile in blender .... You can have Instant Realtime previews ...




Its like DAM CYCLES is REALTIME ... 

ANd it gets even Faster if you have Many cores a Titan Gpu or a Latest latest Nvidea with many cuda cores 


Blender as its realtime is NothinG ALIKE to Tweek materials ...



All kinds of materials are possible with blender ... In a Much more large fashion than common 3d aplications 

From Metals to much more Unbelivable Realisticly organic stuffs ...




NOW IM NOT SAYING THAT BLENDER IS BETTER THAN BRYCE ... 

ANd it is .. but Few Know how to use BLENDER to its Proper Extends ...
And then To Learn Blender is a Reaaly Slow Process ...

And Bryce .. YES it has Its qualities ..

UNIQUE QUalities.

 Bryce Can do BETTER in Setting up a landscape ...
IN a Very easy interface were you have everything ...

And adviced us to Get MODO as Replacemnt of BRYCE ...

But Blender DOesnt have The Procedural Ecosystems Painting & scattering "Easyness" as Vue ..

And Blender also doesnt have the Perfect Realistic ATmospherics and Clouds Volumetrics ...



Unless you work alot for it in the Blender Procedurals Side Untill you find and do yourself Work Templates .. 


Because BASICALY You need to MODEL By Hand CLOUDS ... to Work them Right in Blender 




And this way Blender Clouds they can even look better THAN VUE itself ....


And what people dont know ....

Is that Blender Has so many Ways of doing things ...

Trying to do everything and so much, this is where your problems lie there and why you have so many requirements.  You are thinking on a much grander scale, my challenges, problems and goals are almost microscopic by comparison.  You are trying to make a novel/film/world and I'm concerned with moving high valence verts off corners.  I can't really advise you on what to use for your grand schemes I'm sorry to say, though it is interesting to see your conclusions.
